I am currently working on some more sophisticated Jazz/Blues/Rockabilly guitar-centric tunes for my repertoire, namely All Blue by Miles Davis, Caravan by Duke Ellington, A Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie and Don’t Take Me Alive by Steely Dan. Yes, folks it is time for me to grow up and embrace that funky smelling monster called Jazz.
Whether I will have them ready for my next gig at the Thomas Easton on 21st of July remains to be seen, but I will certainly give it my best shot. You see as well as moving on musically, I am actually in the process of moving house as well. In both cases I have been forced to move outside my comfort zone a go with trepidation into the unfamiliar.
The reason I feel “forced” to move on musically, is that my lease has expired on playing that same old blues-rock wannabe shred metal shite that seems so prevalent on the Cape Town music scene. I would like to offer something different. Of course I cannot change my whole 40 song repertoire overnight .I will still be playing many 60's- 90's covers that seem to be the staple of playing out musicians on the Cape Town circuite, but here it begins. Hope to see y'all on the 21st
